The yacht "Apostol Andrey".

The yacht "Apostol Andrey" is an oceanic yacht, specially designed and built for sailing in northern seas. The hull is welded from steel sheets in chini construction. There are no usual ribs in the construction of the hull. Durability and rigidity are provided by the increased thickness of a plating (20 mm at the bottom) and rigidity of bulkheads.

The two masts – the mainsail (19 m) and the mizzenmast (14 m) carry 130 square meters of sails. An auxiliary engine has 85-h.p. The yacht is equipped with modern radio and phone communication means and navigation equipment.

The main characteristics:

Length – 16,2 m; Width – 4,8 m; Draught – 2,7 m; Displacement – 25 tones;

The crew has started the second circumnavigation on the totally re-equipped yacht, as all design imperfections had been improved.

There were made repair works of the following: water-supply, drainage and flushing systems, electromechanical section, steering complex. A propeller shaft of a large diameter was installed. The capacity of the fuel tanks was twice enlarged. The thermal insulation of the yacht was completely replaced, the furniture and the inner decoration of the yacht's premises. The sections of the board and the desk of the yacht, damaged in the previous circumnavigation, were replaced. The false keel was modified, and as a result the draught of the yacht was reduced to 0,5 m. The sails were repaired, new staysails were sewn on. A new anchor device was manufactured as well as more reliable anchors.

Additional barriers were installed around the mainmast near the deck-cabin thus providing more safety for sailors, who work on the fore deck under storm conditions. At the stern a sloop was mounted for a travelling boat. Some antennas were placed on this sloop giving opportunity to establish more reliable communications.

All repair and modernization works were carried out at the Kronshtadt Navy ShipYard.
