Matvey Shparo & Adventure Club.

Matvey Shparo, 1975, the Deputy Director of the Adventure Club. In 1997 Matvey Shparo was the head of the ascent to Mt. Kilimanjaro, Africa. The team included a blind person, two deaf participants and four amputees. The ascent was dedicated to the 850-th anniversary of Moscow.

In 1998 the name of Matvey Shparo was registered in the London Guinness Book of World Records for the crossing of the Bering Strait over drifting ice.

In 2000 Matvey Shparo was the leader of the unusual ski expedition across Greenland. The team included three participants, one of them uses a wheel chair in his everyday life. The expedition became the first ever crossing of Greenland by a Russian team.

In 2000-2004 Matvey Shparo was the Director of the Youth Ecological Camp "Great Adventure" in Karelia. At this Cam the teenagers take courses in rafting skills, initial stages of mountaineering, participate in autonomous bicycle tours in the woods, or – on catamarans along the rough rivers. The ecological program is carried out at the Camp.

In May-June 2002 Matvey Shparo was the leader of the team of 11 sportsmen, which made ascent to the summit of Mt. McKinley, the top of the North America, 6194 m, Alaska. The team included two sportsmen with spinal cord injury. Yuri Luzhkov, Mayor of Moscow was the official patron of the ascent. The expedition had a wide recognition in the world.

By order of the President of the Russian Federation Matvey Shparo was awarded the Order of Friendship for his achievements during a ski crossing of Greenland.

Matvey Shparo and Boris Smolin became the first men in history to ski to the North Pole in the interminable darkness of a polar winter.
